Electricity and Magnetism

Electricity and Magnetism Workshop is one of our STEM outreach workshops that aims to spark young girls' interest and build their confidence in Science and Technology through the captivating world of electricity and magnetism. Participants engage in electrifying experiments with circuits and magnetic contraptions to explore the properties of electricity and magnetism and their close relationship. The workshop is suitable for children aged eight and above, and it provides a safe and easy way for them to experiment with electric current and magnetic fields.

During the workshop, girls delve into the exciting world of electricity and magnetism through engaging hands-on activities. They embark on building both series and parallel circuits, experimenting with the flick of push buttons and the control of on-off switches. Their creations come alive as they assemble circuits that includes a spinning motor and illuminate up to three bulbs with the flick of a switch. Curiosity takes hold as they conduct tests to identify magnetic materials, delve into the mysteries of magnetic poles and the captivating force of magnetism, and use iron filings to visualize the invisible dance of magnetic fields. The exploration continues as they investigate the interplay of magnetic force and direction using a magnetic pendulum device and unravel the secrets of Earth's magnetic field and the guiding power of compasses. Finally, the girls channel their newfound knowledge into building a loudspeaker, an electromagnetic relay switch, and a Morse code telegraph key.

Girl Engineer, provides all the necessary resources for the workshop, including the Electricity and Magnetism kit. Additionally, we also believe in the importance of continued learning, which is why we make sure that each girl who participates in at least six STEM sessions receives their own individual kit to take home. This empowers them to continue practicing and refining their skills, long after the workshop has ended. We believe that every girl has the potential to be a successful Engineer, and we are committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to make their dreams a reality.
